The shoes are handmade in Aurland, at the Sognefjord, in our little shoe factory, The factory was established in 1939 by Inga and Andreas Wangen. The familiy owned the factory in three generations until today's owners took over in 2008.
The leather is from cattle grazing in Europe and tanned at Sepici. Leather used for the classic Aurland Shoe is between 2,2 and 2,4 mm thick, that is very stron for today's shoes. The Shoes need therefore som time to adapt to your feet.
Leather sole is fantastic for dancing - if you like to dance the moon walk you should not go for rubber soles - but they are unfortunately not suitable for rainy days. Rubber sole is an "allrounder" soft to your feet and giving them grip on slippery surfaces.
Here you can find some advice to keep your shoes in perfect shape.
